Alternative Modalities'members work to end homophobia in the physical therapy profession and society at large by serving as
advocates, advisors, and resources, by promoting quality professional care for all, including lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgendered, and HIV positive people, by fostering a professional climate in which our diverse
membership can achieve full professional, political, and social potential, by supporting members challenged by discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation in the work environment, and by promoting quality
physical therapy education to gay and lesbian students so they may work and study professionally, openly, and without challenge by discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation.
Alternative Modalities plays an important role in bridging physical therapy and the gay and lesbian community and is uniquely
credible and effective in advocating for our communities. Through our newsletter, social receptions, and special projects, we offer a wealth of opportunities for networking and community building.
